Atlas of Penance I marks the beginning of FLAGELANTE’s compilation series — a sonic cartography of weight and aesthetic convergence. This first volume gathers a global lineup of artists whose work resonates through dark atmospheres, ritual textures, and a shared commitment to raw, exploratory sound.
The visual identity draws from a reinterpretation of Baldassare Tommaso Peruzzi’s Crouching Figure of Atlas, reimagined through a symbolic, apocalyptic lens. The globe becomes a spiked astrological device — merging classical burden with celestial entrapment, and echoing the compilation’s themes of inner gravity and fractured worlds. Inspired by medieval gravures and early scientific engravings, the illustration serves as a visual anchor for the release’s conceptual weight.

Alongside the release, a music video for Filmmaker’s track was made, using archival and stock footage related to technology, surveillance, and contemporary life. The visuals were blended using datamoshing and glitch-based editing techniques, creating a distorted, rhythmic narrative that mirrors the track’s subject matter and groove.
